Envision growing veggies and having access to fresh food at home? Then this class is for you! We shall discuss the newly emerging field of aquaponics and shed light on how individuals, families, and communities can become more food independent.

Aquaponics combines aquaculture (raising fish) & hydroponics (cultivating in a non-soil medium) for the perfect synergy between the two systems. It can be done in kitchens, rooftops, backyards, and warehouses. It is the most water-saving, energy-efficient, fast and easy way to cultivate food. Come learn the history, design, and application of aquaponics.

From Katie Couric, Laurie David (Oscar winning producer of AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH) and director Stephanie Soechtig, FED UP will change the way you eat forever. The film opens in theaters across the country on May 9th.

Learn to Hunt in Jersey City

I'm teaching my class again in the easily accessible neighborhood of downtown Jersey City. There is still time to get certified and be ready to hunt this fall!

If you're interested in the ultimate paleo meat experience of hunting your own food, but don't know where to start, then come to this class. I have 20 years of experience hunting, and can teach you everything you need to know.

In a little over an hour, I will teach you everything from how to get your license to the basics of deer hunting. Afterward there will be time to ask questions, and I will stick around until you run out of them!

Tickets are required for this event. Register on my website, at www.learntohuntnyc.com or on the Eventbrite page:

event: Ancestral Health Symposium (AHS14) in Berkeley CA!

more info here:
http://www.ancestralhealth.org/symposium

AHS sessions will take place at Wheeler Hall and another classroom auditorium which is yet to be assigned – most likely in Dwinelle or the Valley Life Science building.

The Ancestral Health Symposium
AHS14 will be held at the University of California, Berkeley campus—August 7-9, 2014.

AHS is a historic three-day event created to unite the ancestral health movement and to foster collaboration among scientists, health professionals and laypersons who study and communicate about health from an evolutionary perspective to develop solutions to our health challenges.

If you are interested in understanding human health, disease, and wellness from the perspective of the human ecological niche and human evolution, please join us!

Please visit our symposium archives to find the previous years’ videos, abstracts, bios and programs.

Meals

Breakfast and lunch are included in dormitory room reservations. Symposium registration does not include meals. For those staying off campus, meal tickets can be purchased in advance or meals can be purchased on site. Purchasing your meal tickets in advance allows Berkeley to plan ahead to provide plenty of appropriate food.

Breakfast and lunch will be served on campus in the Crossroads Dining Hall and will be consistent with paleo, primal and perfect health diet guidelines. We are working to provide a menu full of high-quality protein, veggies, and fruits.

Herbstalk 2014

What is Herbstalk?

Herbstalk is an educational community gathering offering herbal classes, plant walks and a marketplace. Our intent is to share herbal knowledge and empowering information with a large audience during the event, and to build community around herbalism and health.

How did Herbstalk start? The idea for Herbstalk was originally inspired by local farmers’ markets. There are many wonderful markets and lots of emphasis on local foods, but there were no similar outlets for herbalism in the Boston area. The idea was to create an herbal marketplace that also offered educational classes for people interested in learning more about herbs. Herbstalk was intended to be a community gathering spot and a way for the local herbal community to reach a greater audience.

Who comes to Herbstalk? Herbstalk is for people who love plants. Our attendees come from around New England (and beyond) to teach and attend classes for both herbal beginners and more advanced students. Herbstalk is for anyone who wants to learn more about herbalism.

Can I bring my kids?

Yes, kids are welcome to participate in Herbstalk. Children under 12 enter for free and there is a children’s area with activities planned throughout the weekend. However, please note that the kids’ area is not a daycare center and children may not be left unsupervised by their parents.

What about parking?

Parking at the Armory is limited. There is a lot directly behind the building as well as two overflow lots within walking distance. These lots are located at 112 Central St. and 75 Belmont St. Parking is also available at the Somerville City Hall at 93 Highland Avenue. Here’s a map of the parking lot options.

If possible, please take public transportation, bike or carpool. The Davis Square T is only a leisurely 15 minute walk from the Armory. Hubway bikes are available at Davis Sq. and we’ll also have bike racks out front for easy parking.

Is there a way to carpool with other people from out of town?

Yes – check out our Herbstalk page on Ridebuzz.org to link up with other people who are driving to Herbstalk. You will have to create an account to login.

Is there food for sale at Herbstalk?

Yes! We have a range of vendors providing a variety of food options. They will be listed here once they are confirmed.
