Herbstalk 2014

What is Herbstalk?

Herbstalk is an educational community gathering offering herbal classes, plant walks and a marketplace. Our intent is to share herbal knowledge and empowering information with a large audience during the event, and to build community around herbalism and health.

How did Herbstalk start? The idea for Herbstalk was originally inspired by local farmers’ markets. There are many wonderful markets and lots of emphasis on local foods, but there were no similar outlets for herbalism in the Boston area. The idea was to create an herbal marketplace that also offered educational classes for people interested in learning more about herbs. Herbstalk was intended to be a community gathering spot and a way for the local herbal community to reach a greater audience.

Who comes to Herbstalk? Herbstalk is for people who love plants. Our attendees come from around New England (and beyond) to teach and attend classes for both herbal beginners and more advanced students. Herbstalk is for anyone who wants to learn more about herbalism.

Can I bring my kids?

Yes, kids are welcome to participate in Herbstalk. Children under 12 enter for free and there is a children’s area with activities planned throughout the weekend. However, please note that the kids’ area is not a daycare center and children may not be left unsupervised by their parents.

What about parking?

Parking at the Armory is limited. There is a lot directly behind the building as well as two overflow lots within walking distance. These lots are located at 112 Central St. and 75 Belmont St. Parking is also available at the Somerville City Hall at 93 Highland Avenue. Here’s a map of the parking lot options.

If possible, please take public transportation, bike or carpool. The Davis Square T is only a leisurely 15 minute walk from the Armory. Hubway bikes are available at Davis Sq. and we’ll also have bike racks out front for easy parking.

Is there a way to carpool with other people from out of town?

Yes – check out our Herbstalk page on Ridebuzz.org to link up with other people who are driving to Herbstalk. You will have to create an account to login.

Is there food for sale at Herbstalk?

Yes! We have a range of vendors providing a variety of food options. They will be listed here once they are confirmed.
