Puyallup Pot-Luck and Nettle Picking

It's that time of year again! it's time to come on down to Puyallup for the third annual nettle picking party.

We'd like to host a lunch potluck in conjunction with nettle (and other wild edible) foraging. I have some nettle recipes I can share, too.

The timeline would be:

10:00 – arrive at our house and get prepped to go picking.
10:15 – head out
12:00 – back to the house and do some nettle prep/cooking
1:00 – potluck time!

This way if someone wants to come for just the potluck, they can.

Nettles are nutritious and delicious, tasting something like a cross between spinach and kale. If you were at the meetup last spring, then you know what they're all about.

We'll hike into Clark's Creek Park in Puyallup to gather nettles and then come back to our house to learn how to prep and cook with them. We can break out the potluck food, then, too. The hike into the park is a true hike with hills and trails so come ready for that. It is probably just about 2 miles round trip. We'll be going out rain or shine.

Nettles do sting while you're picking them so you will want gloves and some small scissors. Kid's safety scissors work great. You will want long sleeves and long pants, too. A grocery bag works well to collect them.

To learn more about nettles, just do a quick web search. They are high in protein and minerals and are known for their health benefits.

Paleo Lunches and Breakfasts on the Go: Book Signing

Q&A and Book Signing at Whole Foods in Framingham, MA with Diana Rodgers

Paleo Pool Party!

Oh yeah, the weather is heating up so it's time to BBQ! Satya has generously volunteered to host our first summer cookout and poolside happy hour! Let's all chip in to make this a hit by bringing some meat, fish, or veggies to grill or a freshly prepared side dish. Contributions toward cocktails will certainly be welcomed too. 😉 Suggestions to barbecue:
*grass-fed beef burgers
*Applegate grass-fed beef dogs
*chicken legs or wings
*pork or beef ribs
*salmon, halibut, or other wild caught fish
*veggie kebabs
*Portobello mushrooms
*zucchini

Suggestions for side dishes:
*vinegar or coconut milk based coleslaw
*summer squash “pasta” salad
*sweet potatoes
*fresh fruit or berries
*green salad
*cut veggies with salsa or guac

Beverages and desserts will absolutely be appreciated as well! Some of us can tolerate a little alcohol like wine or hard cider but maybe others would prefer a “mocktail” of sparkling water infused with citrus fruits and herbs. Feel free to make your own suggestions. I would love to hear what you think would make a Paleo pool party a blast!

Please advise that Satya's pool is not fenced so if you bring cavekids, keep a close eye on them. Swimming is optional but enjoying yourself is required! 😉

Talk Paleo FX!

Somehow I managed to do a little more than just fawn over the Paleo celebs at Paleo FX in Austin – I actually learned a thing or two as well! Join me for happy hour as I convey some of the happiest hours of my life being completely immersed in Paleoland. I had the privilege to witness Chris Kresser, Robb Wolf, Mark Sisson, Melissa Hartwig, Dr. Shauna Young, Jonathan Bailor, John Kiefer, Sarah Ballantyne, Sarah Fragroso, and many others dispense their tireless research to help us enhance our lives. This will not be a formal presentation – I did not compose a power point or anything, just jotted a few notes in my journal to share with you all. 🙂

Let's met at the Camelback Whole Foods location. We can meet in their bar or out on the patio if weather permits. If you want to partake in a cocktail, you can, but no pressure! They also have an awesome juice and coffee bar as well as a hypnotizing hot food and salad bar. And if you need to get some grocery shopping done, you can do that too!
