Over-Fed, Yet Under-Nourished: Guest Speaker Dr. Chase Hayden

Join us for an evening of learning and discussion with Dr. Chase Hayden.

Dr. Hayden uses nutrition and other lifestyle changes for disease prevention, rehabilitation and other health and wellness goals in his Alternative Medicine practice.

He has prepared a presentation for us called: Over-Fed, Yet Under-Nourished: Reclaim Your Health, and Leave Your Symptoms Behind, which focuses on the fact that even though we have an abundance of food, our bodies are still starved for the nutrients that we need. Learn more about what consuming “empty calories” does to the body, and what happens when we start emphasizing nutrient dense food.

Dr. Hayden is said to be pretty entertaining, and this sounds like a topic everyone could benefit from learning more about. So bring the non-Paleo friends too!

Get More From Your Meat Workshop

The meaty leg of lamb and the elegant rib rack get all the love, but getting to know cuts from other parts of the animal can vastly expand your cooking repertoire to include dishes like hearty stews, juicy burgers, lavish roasts and deeply flavourful curries.

Through a live demonstration with The Raw Store butcher extraordinaire watch as he skilfully breaks down a whole lamb and chicken, talking through each cut and the appropriate cooking method for each. Improve your knife skills and learn how to manage the lesser known cuts of meat.

Also included is a taste test of a slow cooked lesser cut of meat.

Unofficial Event: The Paleo Mom Book Signing

Sarah Ballantyne, The Paleo Mom, will be at Half Price Books on North Lamar for a book signing for the The Paleo Approach Cookbook.

Sarah will be giving a talk, starting at 1pm, about how she learned to cook, her biggest cooking disasters, and the challenges she faced learning to cook with new ingredients when she first adopted both the Paleo diet and the Paleo autoimmune protocol.

Following Sarah's talk, attendees will be invited to ask questions for a Q&A. This is your opportunity to ask Sarah anything!

The event is free. If you plan on attending, please RSVP here: bit.ly/1pkJZxV

Both of her books will be available for purchase at the event. You may bring previously purchased books to this event, but it's always strongly encouraged to support the local booksellers as a thank you for hosting us.

Special Protocol Weekly Meeting

Are you following an AIP, Whole30, Keto, or other restrictive program to address health concerns or goals? It's extremely beneficial to have a support network of other folks with your same needs, so let's get together for lunch and help each other out! Whole Foods Market offers $2 off the hot food and salad bars every Wednesday, so let's take advantage! The Town and Country center also has a charming little farmer's market going on from 10-2 as well so we can support some local vendors as well. 🙂 The Whole Foods dining section is rather tiny so if we need a large table, we may have to meet in the outdoor seating area.

POTLUCK and Monthly Support Group/Book Discussion: Nom Nom Paleo cookbook

This month's book club has been changed to a POTLUCK at Ragan and Clay's house in Puyallup. Post in the comments if you're interested in carpooling.

The book this month is Nom Nom Paleo: Food for Humans. If you have the book, bring a dish to share from the book. If you don't, bring your favorite paleo dish. Post your dish in the comments below so people can plan accordingly.

The monthly meeting is more than a book group.

Even if you haven't read the book, please join your fellow paleo people as we explore the world of food, agriculture, sustainability, and paleo living.

This month's book is Nom Nom Paleo: Food for Humans.

With everyone busy for the holidays, we thought we'd read a cookbook this month. Come talk about your favorite recipes, from this cookbook or otherwise.

All are welcome. As always we look forward to seeing you.

If you haven't yet, join in the discussion here:
