Whilst I generally try to avoid desserts and puddings, sometimes it is nice to have a sweet treat. And when I do have a sweet treat – it needs to still be Paleo. It’s easy to veer of Paleo towards SAD

(Standard American Diet) treats if you don’t have a back-up plan, so it’s far better to make sure that if you are going to have something sweet or containing chocolate, it’s made with better ingredients.

One of my favourite Paleo desserts is Avocado Chocolate Mousse. This mousse is not only delicious and creamy but also packed with nutrients thanks to its secret ingredient – avocado.

Avocado provides a rich, velvety texture that mimics traditional mousse, without the need for dairy or refined sugars.

This avocado chocolate mousse is perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth while sticking to your Paleo lifestyle. The combination of avocado and banana creates a naturally sweet and creamy base, while the raw cacao powder adds a rich chocolate flavour. The squeeze of lemon enhances the flavours and helps balance the sweetness, and the pinch of sea salt brings out the depth of the chocolate.

Why Avocado?

Avocado is a versatile fruit that offers numerous health benefits. It is high in healthy fats, particularly monounsaturated fat, which is good for heart health. Avocados are also rich in fibre, vitamins, and minerals, including potassium, vitamin E, and B-vitamins. Using avocado in desserts is a great way to add creaminess without dairy and to boost the nutritional profile of your treat.

Tips for Perfect Mousse:

  • Use ripe avocados: Ensure your avocado is ripe and soft for the best texture.
  • Adjust sweetness: If you prefer a sweeter mousse, you can add more honey or a natural sweetener of your choice.
  • Experiment with flavours: You can add a dash of vanilla extract or a sprinkle of cinnamon for extra flavour.
