I quite like the Mumu Grill in Crows Nest – lots of paleo options, and their meat is grass fed. Some meats are even slow cooked for 15 hours. The pork and lamb are delicious!

I recently found an amazing range of coconut oil products here in Australia. (Crazy, because I have known about this mans work for many years but had never related it to my own life and health.)

The brand is Niulife (pronounced new-life) produced by Kokonut Pacific. The website (www.niulife.com) has lots of great information about coconut oil, including health related articles and recipes. The large range of products (coconut oil, coconut flour, soap….and more.) are all Certified Organic and are Fair Trade. You can even buy bulk quantities of coconut oil….5, 10, 20 litres.

Unfortunately only in plastic containers, which pose their own set of problems. NIUGUINI is fantastic and in glass storage bottles – and very nice too.

i have been taking goat’s cheese, and yoghurt daily, do i have to give it up? i follow the paleo diet strictly, except i haven’t bought grass fed meat or organic, yet. ( i can’t afford to yet, as i have a freezer full of meat, and living on the pension. ) Also i have seen conflicting information re potatoes- is it paleo ?
i have cut my sugar intake, today i bought i weakened and ate a slice of caramel cheesecake cake, and the results were amazing, don’t think i will that for long while (if ever).

Hi Sunshine, if you click into the forum you’ll be able to post there, rather than as a comment to this page.

The only Australian ebook I’m aware of is my own at http://breakfastpaleo.com

Hopefully someone will be able to offer some advice on fibromyalgia.

Hello! I just registered on this site. I have been doing Paleo for one month now and have lost 15 pounds. I am hoping this forum will be a source of support for me as I have little support where I live (the state of West Virginia in the USA) and I can’t seem to find a good forum located here. In fact, my state has the “wonderful” honor of being number one in the USA for obesity and diabetes-and unfortunately, I am part of that statistic. Fortunately, I am committed to changing this and so far, low-carb seems to be the best way for me to lose weight. But since I’ve been eating almost exclusively grassfed meats and pastured chickens and off grain, I have noticed I feel better and most importantly, I don’t have such difficult cravings, although they aren’t gone completely yet. Anyway, this is getting too long so I think I’ll close for now.

hi i have been on the paleo diet for 4 or 5 days and i have lost a kilo which is nice, is it normal to be really hungry most of the time at the start? i also work for a company that provides food and it is hugly carb based, pasta rice burito bread and mountain bread in just about every meal, this is one of the reasons i haven’t gone on diets in the past as it seemed impossible, i decided to give this one a go cause i’m over being over weight and my sis gave me loren Cordains book. right now i’m trying to think of ways to solve the carb problem as it is group cooked food on camp, i will have to come up with something or i’m doomed. if you have any suggestions that would be great.
thanks for the recipes they have helped i’m struggling with breakfast at the moment that may be why i’m hungry, i normally have museli now i’m just having fruit or a fruit smoothies.
any way any sugestions would be great when i start work this is going to be the hardest.
    cheers ebony

Hello all. I’m Mike and I’m a drive in – drive out mineworker in WA. I’ve been doing a lot of reading online recently to do with Paleo eating, ancient and tribal diets including Australian Aborigines, North American Indians and even further north, the Inuits and have come to the conclusion that ‘ancient’ and ‘primitive’ definitely doesn’t mean unintelligent. I can’t understand how people such as the Tarahumari Indians of northern Mexico can be famous for running huge distances for days and yet very few people in the rest of the world are willing to credit them with knowing something that we all should know.

As I said, I’m a mineworker and while I’m now on the best roster I can find, ( 7 days on – 7 days off ), I’m still like a lot of people in mining in that I’m overweight, have high BP and at 61 years of age, am showing a few signs of the advancing years – knee problems, arthritis, muscle soreness etc. I’ve tried various ways to get the weight off, but following the usual dietary recommendations is easier said than done when living in a mining camp environment. However it has occurred to me that it might be a dead easy task eating Paleo whilst in the camp. Most camp catering companies will cook you a steak or piece of fish if you don’t want what else is on offer. There is always a lot of cold meats available as well as a well stocked salad bar. The salad bar can be a bit predictable at times though.

So, the whole point to this long-winded post is this – I’ve been on 3 weeks leave and am due to go back to work on dayshift, Tuesday, 19/2/2012 and intend to put the whole Paleo thing to the test for the next 4 weeks, which will consist of 7 days of dayshift, 7 days at home, then 7 nightshifts and then 7 days back home. I’m expecting the nightshift week to be a killer, trying to get through it without any of the norty stuff in my coffee, like sugar and milk, but I’m going to give it my best shot. Oh, and just to put you all in the loop, a shift where I work is 12.5 hours long and that’s before you include the 20 minute bus trip to the site at the start and finish of each shift. There is a fully equipped gym at the vamp, but after being awake for at least 14 – 15 hours, all I want is a shower and a meal and some sleep! I leave the gym stuff and the sleep deprivation to the young fellas.

If there is anyone else out there who works or has worked in mining or construction as a FIFO or DIDO worker and has any tips or shortcuts to handling Paleo eating in those sort of situations, I’d love to hear from you and if I find something myself, I’ll pass it along as well.

    Wish me luck.
