Before I went paleo I ate a lot of white potatoes. Now, I eat white potatoes occasionally, but always have some sweet potatoes on hand. Far less starchy, packed with nutrition and even the taste is better – what isn't to like about sweet potatoes?!
With a higher carbohydrate content, these are a great replacement for pasta and rice – especially when first transitioning to a healthier diet. Turning them into noodles with a spiralizer, mash or even fries means you won't even notice the absence of pasta or white potatoes on your plate.
As well as the popular orange variety, give the white and purple sweet potatoes a try too. I always make sure I avoid the large ones and select the smaller ones, as they're far more flavoursome.

If you're super low-carb, or trying to lose weight, it might be a good idea to give sweet potatoes a miss due to their high carbohydrate content. But otherwise, they're a great option.
