Hi All
I am new to Paleo. I'm not scientifically minded, so I have been reading all the 'lay' stuff I can get my hands on. Slightly obsessive at the moment. I started down this road after watching and reading Gary Taubes. I have long been wondering why I can't loose weight when my dietary habits aren't that bad, ok, they were not great either. My weight has been steadily increasing since my 20s, I am now 40, and I have had enough. I have Hashimoto's disease, I had Grave's as well, but that seems to have gone. I discussed my weight fight with my Dr, and although she is very nice, she assumes I am a Mars Bar swilling couch potato due to my weight, which I resent. I have been thrashing myself as much as possible at the gym for over 3 years, but every few months I fall in a heap - exhausted.

I have been following a Paleo diet for over 2 weeks, but nothing has changed, don't know what I am doing wrong. I don't count or measure - I just can't, and so much of the reading I have done says I shouldn't need to.

I am just starting Crossfit, so hoping that will get things going.

I have to make this work, I have at least 20kgs to lose and I know conventional methods don't work.
I would appreciate any advice that will get this weight loss started! 😐

Hi Jodie

I am not much help to you as I've just joined and this is my first ever forum so not sure what I'm doing but your situation sounds like mine.

I'm 40, been on a lovely trip to Italy and have a few kgs to loose. Have always been active but since the big 40 things don't seem to be bouncing back as quickly. Like you, discovered how great Primal living makes you feel and right into the clean eating, no or little sugar and changed my gym routine to include weight training. What are your stats? height, weight, build etc?

In my reading of other forums and discussions, it seems that your body just reaches a happy place unless you amp things up physically (may only require a small tweak), cut out the fruit and nuts(a sad thing but not forever). Do your conditions or medication make it difficult to shift weight? The other thing that seems to be a big deal is we have to learn patience!!! By 40 we should have learnt but when it comes to our bodies it seems we revert back to the expectations of a 20 yr old!! Some good advice I read was that the body has to readjust itself to new diet/exercise programs and learn to live off energy from protein and fat rather than carbs/sugar...this takes time.

So Jodie, I hope to hear some good news about your progress in the future but feel good knowing you are putting yourself and your body in a better place for when you get older. In a year I bet you look amazing.
Cheers
