Self-Care Working Group

This will be a paid event ($20) to implement a consulting service in a group setting. Outstanding contributions from attendees will be appreciated with a free pass to a subsequent meeting. Practitioners, too. Topics will include lifestyle, nutrition, supplements, diet, sleep, quantified-self technology, self-empowerment and any topic from any of my past Dialog Dinners hosted by Joni Sare, or blogs from www.Project Wellbeing.com.

Three dates per month: the second Monday, the third Sundayand/or the fourth Thursday. Pick one that is most convenient, or attend all three. The Sunday is for longer time and easier transportation. I hope this is flexible enough that at least one date will work for you. If none of these work, please let me know.

This is intended to be a working group, where progress over time is part of the process.

To ensure a safe environment, all participants will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement that binds them against discussing any other person's health issues and meeting comments.

There is no requirement for implementation. You can sit and listen for informational purposes only, if that is what you wish.

If you do not know me and would like a general introduction, watch “Nutrients for Better Mental Performance” on the Google TechTalk Channel on YouTube. Or just type “Steve Fowkes” at the YouTube prompt and select something else.

Read about Hormones!

Many of us have benefitted greatly by adopting a Paleo diet and have alleviated many health ailments. However, sometimes it takes more than food to heal certain issues. Let's take our understanding of the Paleo diet one step further by figuring out how our hormones work in conjunction with our digestion, immunity, cell-building, etc. If any of you follow The Underground Wellness radio show/podcast hosted by Sean Croxton, you may be aware that he is on a kick lately with evaluating and manipulating hormonal function. Let's join him! He did an interview recently with Sara Gottfried, author of The Hormone Cure. This book was originally published last year in hardcover and re-released this year in paperback with some new material. I will leave it up to you which version you want to read. Please have the book read by the time we meet and prepare to speak about at least three lessons you learned from the material. Ideally, it would be nice to explore each chapter, if time permits. Let's ensure that our discussion pertains to THIS book and how it impacted us. Sharing personal anecdotes is great as long as it ties in with the material. 🙂 This is such an important topic that I think benefits all of us. Whether we agree or disagree where we stand on the matter, let's do our best to be respectful of each other's opinions and have a healthy and enriching discussion! 🙂

Latin American Potluck!

Honoring our members' ethnicities with themed potlucks benefits us all! This time, we travel south of the border for some Latin American flair! This event also happens to coincide with Vanessa's birthday, our favorite Costa Rican! I bet she will have lots of good ideas and suggestions for some dishes. 😉 Feel free to browse through Chowstalker or another online Paleo recipe portal.

Because this is a PALEO potluck and many of our members eat this way because their health depends on it, I kindly ask you to ensure your contribution is free of ALL grains, dairy, soy, corn, and legumes. Please be sure to jot down all the ingredients in your dish for those of us with other food sensitivities and dietary preferences. Plus, we want to know what makes your dish delish!

I want to ensure that there is a nice variety of items for everyone to choose from and that portions are plentiful. Please bring enough food to feed at least 10 people. When you RSVP, let us know what you plan to bring. We need to have a fair distribution of protein, fat, and carbohydrate sources. We are extremely meat, veggie, fruit, and dark chocolate friendly! 🙂 It's OK if your dish contains eggs, nuts, and/or seeds as well but some of our AIP friends need to be careful around those ingredients so labeling is crucial for them. Thank you!

Paleo/Primal Potluck

Good ole fashioned Paleo-style potluck, where you won't have to ask “Who made this? What's in it?”

If you're coming please comment below what type of dish you're bringing so that we can get a good variety of food.

Paleo 115: World Ento + Paleo Potluck

World Ento is the supplier of edible insects in the U.S., founded on the principle of making a difference in the fight against world hunger. We focus on driving market growth and innovation in the new edible insect industry, while helping to foster an open and collaborative Ento community. We focus on ingredient products that are sustainable, natural, and healthy. Our main products are geared toward innovators and entrepreneurs who need reliable insect ingredients to create new products in the rapidly developing industry. We also make these delicious critters available to adventurous eaters and chefs, providing a safe, sustainable, and convenient source for personal culinary exploration. Several of our products fit into the Paleo and gluten free lifestyle and we are looking to explore product ideas with both communities.

Social Goals

Short Term Goal – Introduce and integrate insects into the American culinary culture to reduce our carbon footprint and encourage innovation in our industry.

Long Term Goal – Reinvest revenues into the R&D of famine relief products. These products will be deployed in food insecure areas and will accompany the tech needed to empower local entrepreneurs to start their own edible insect production and help their community become protein-independent. Website – WorldEnto.com

What we’re bringing – some paleo friendly baked goods made from cricket flour and some fresh insects that are naturally processed for cooking. I will do a quick cooking demonstration to show the potential of this paleo source of protein, carbs, and omega-3 and -6 fatty acids. There will be samples for everyone and a chance to try cooking with some human grade bugs

==

In addition to the World Ento presentation and demo, we'll also be having our usual potluck. Please bring your favorite paleo dish for the potlock event. Bugs aren't necessary!

If you're new to the group, we'd love to see you join us at the event! Just stop by and say “hello!”
