Brunch at Hu Kitchen

****UPDATE******: There will NOT be a reserved section upstairs because this is the restaurant's busiest time. Please respect the business and owner by making a purchase while you are there. We need to also be mindful to give up spaces to people who have purchased food and need tables. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and I look forward to seeing all of you!

Hey everyone!! Hope you are all doing well. I'm going to be in NYC for a friend's wedding and wanted to take advantage of the time I'll be there to have a Paleo event!! (and also because I'm having Hu Kitchen withdrawals here in Miami!!)

I hope a bunch of you will be able to make it 🙂 look forward to catching up!!

*Also, a very happy birthday to the group's founder, John Durant*

Loop Lunch @ Burrito Beach!

A get-together in the loop for lunch is well overdo! Now that it's warming up, and the weather is calling us out to play, no excuses!

I hope this is a convenient location for all in the area!

Can't wait to see you!

Matt was SO kind to scope out the area today and mentioned it was a bit crowded and limited seating. Which may look like a great lunch spot (will definitely check it out myself in the near future), we want to make sure we can all eat somewhere that has room for our entire group. Let's do Burrito Beach this time around and brainstorm alternative spots for next time around!

See everyone tomorrow!!

Self-Care Working Group

This will be a paid event ($20) to implement a consulting service in a group setting. Outstanding contributions from attendees will be appreciated with a free pass to a subsequent meeting. Practitioners, too. Topics will include lifestyle, nutrition, supplements, diet, sleep, quantified-self technology, self-empowerment and any topic from any of my past Dialog Dinners hosted by Joni Sare, or blogs from www.Project Wellbeing.com.

Three dates per month: the second Monday, the third Sundayand/or the fourth Thursday. Pick one that is most convenient, or attend all three. The Sunday is for longer time and easier transportation. I hope this is flexible enough that at least one date will work for you. If none of these work, please let me know.

This is intended to be a working group, where progress over time is part of the process.

To ensure a safe environment, all participants will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement that binds them against discussing any other person's health issues and meeting comments.

There is no requirement for implementation. You can sit and listen for informational purposes only, if that is what you wish.

If you do not know me and would like a general introduction, watch “Nutrients for Better Mental Performance” on the Google TechTalk Channel on YouTube. Or just type “Steve Fowkes” at the YouTube prompt and select something else.

crosspost: Tour a Raw Goat Milk Dairy!

RSVP for real here: http://www.meetup.com/Seattle-Urban-Homesteaders/events/175912042/

The cost is $20 per family. Please RSVP to [masked], as space is limited!

Left Foot Farm is hosting the first Family Farm Tour of the year on Saturday, April 26! The tour will include a stop at our chicken coops, where children can collect eggs and pet the chickens, and the adults can look at the chicken houses and learn about the management of the flock. Next stop: baby goats! Our Nigerian Dwarf Goats are playful and friendly, love to be held and are always a big hit with visitors. At the milking station, you can watch as an intern demonstrates how to milk a doe, and then you can try it for yourself. Nigerian Dwarf Goats are excellent backyard goats and even better milkers for their high butterfat content. We also have two alpacas, who are always curious to meet new people, so take the opportunity to pet them, feel a sample of their fiber, and look them in the eye. Our guardian dog Princess is having babies sometime before April 15, so we will have plenty of adorable puppies to play with! Finally, take a tour of our garden and pick a bag of fresh veggies and greens to bring home! We are a licensed Grade A Raw Dairy, so feel free to take a sample of the milk, try a bit of chevre, and even buy a cheese-making kit to make it at home! We encourage you to bring a lunch and stay for a picnic in the garden area when the tour has finished.

OK, not completely on target for our group but where do you think all that Paleo salmon (etc) comes from? From this.

For the past 50 years, author James Cole has designed, built and repaired fishing vessels throughout the Seattle area. Working as a naval architect, he also became a specialist in research-based paintings and drawings of fishing vessels at work. And this spring we are excited to welcome Cole to share his expertise at a discussion and signing of his new book of drawings, illustrations, interviews and descriptions detailing the evolution of fishing vessel design that is unique to the Pacific Northwest, from native fishing canoes all the way to the modern fishing fleets of Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.

James A. ColeJames A. Cole was born and raised in Tacoma, Washington, and graduated from the University of Washington in 1957 after serving in the Coast Guard during the Korean War. He entered the marine industry as a marine designer at Philip F. Spaulding & Associates, Naval Architects and Marine Engineers. Over his 56-year career, Jim Cole has been employed at the offices of four naval architecture firms and in the engineering departments of four shipyards in the Puget Sound area. After graduating from Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, writer Kathleen Flinn returned with no idea what to do next, until one day at a supermarket she watched a woman loading her cart with ultraprocessed foods. The Kitchen Counter Cooking School includes practical, healthy tips that boost readers' culinary self-confidence, strategies to get the most from their grocery dollars, and simple recipes that get readers cooking.

Her next book is The Kitchen Counter Cooking School: How a Few Simple Lessons Transformed Nine Culinary Novices Into Fearless Home Cooks (Viking/Penguin 2011). A long-time writer, her work appeared in dozens of publications, including the Chicago Sun-Times, Smithsonian, Men's Fitness, the Globe & Mail (Canada) and USA Today.
