Decipher between a “scientific” study and a scientific study

Ever heard of Denise Minger? She's the powerhouse behind RawFoodSOS.com who dropped truth bombs about how scientifically inaccurate The China Study is. Her blog blew up when she demonstrated how incredibly flawed Colin Campbell's research was and now published her own book, Death by Food Pyramid. It is available on Amazon and at the Phoenix Public Library. Let's have her teach us how to make sense of all the studies out there to make smart and sound health choices! Who is tired of hearing contradicting information on a regular basis? Let's get together and talk about the valuable lessons this book can teach us. Please have the book read by the meetup date and bring a snack or beverage to share!

Low Carb/Keto potluck with an Irish/UK theme!

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, let's feast on eats from the British Isles! Though Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, he was actually born in Great Britain, so we will acknowledge cuisine from both regions. I know what many of you are thinking – most Irish food consists of potatoes and potatoes are NOT low-carb. This will challenge us to appreciate the other fine meats and veggies that are celebrated out there! Some ideas include lamb or beef stew, braised cabbage, shepherd's/cottage pie, etc. Soups and salads are always appreciated and don't forget an abundance of greens!

As always, please be mindful of the food sensitivities/allergies of others. Jot down all the ingredients of your dish and ensure they are grain, dairy, soy, corn, and legume free. I can fire up the grill if anyone wants to BBQ!

My home is rather small but I have fantastic outdoor space, so we will dine outside. Help me out by bringing a chair or two and perhaps even a folding table. 🙂

Auto-immune Protocol Support Group

I understand that many of you need to take Paleo one step further by including more restrictions. If you are afflicted with an auto-immune disease or have severe food allergies, it may be especially tough to navigate restaurant menus and grocery stores. Let's help each other out! Support each other by offering tips, strategies, and assistance to those who need support with their elimination diets!

This will be a weekly event that will take place during lunchtime but feel free to come and go anytime during the allotted schedule.  The Whole Foods Market offers $2.00 off the organic salad and hot food bar so it makes a great lunch spot!  Also, the Town and Country center has a very charming farmer's market going on at the same time!  Some suggestions for this group could be discussing AIP books or news articles, swapping AIP-friendly recipes, shopping together and eating lunch together.  You guys set the tone and share what you would like to get out of this!

And by no means is this group restricted to people on the AIP protocol but they are especially welcome and encouraged to attend.  I think we could all learn a little something just by being a fly on the wall! 🙂

Sunday Brunch!

We have become quite experienced with evening potlucks and now let's venture into the morning hours! For us Paleo aficionados, Sunday brunch will be void of all the insulin skyrocketing, heavily processed, subpar pastries and cereals. Instead, we will enjoy high quality meats, eggs, fruits, and veggies made with love! I think many of us will benefit from sharing our ideas and recipes for scrumptious breakfast items so please get creative!

As always, please refrain from all grains, corn, soy, legumes, and dairy. Please contact me if you need suggestions for dishes. There are an abundant of fantastic online resources such as chowstalker.com.

Satya has graciously volunteered to host the event at her place which is conveniently located near 16th Street and Glendale.  Right off the 51 and a very easy commute from anywhere in the valley!  Please note that she has an unfenced pool, so please keep a close eye on the Paleo kiddos!

Whole30 Support Group

A subset of this group participated in a Whole30 during the month of October but I understand that there are many new members of this larger group that have questions and expressed interest in what a Whole30 is all about. This protocol is a bit different than the Keto challenge or the AIP in that you don't necessarily need to track your macronutrient profiles or be extremely mindful about low carb. You just eat real, WHOLE food for 30 days. It is a fantastic way to jump into squeaky clean Paleo if you are new to our world OR as a reset if you have slipped off the rails recently. 😉 You can message me or read www.whole9life.com and It Starts With Food by Dallas and Melissa Hartwig to get started!

I think having a weekly support group where we can help keep each other accountable is imperative to our success.  Let's get together and share recipes, strategies, tips, and stories.  Plus, we will squeeze in the primal lifestyle benefits of sun, play, and camaraderie!
