7 Most Pointless Foods

As a fan of real food, some of the things I see on sale completely baffle me. This is my list of the seven most pointless “foods” on sale in a store near you…

1. Packet egg whites.

Where to start with this one? What’s wrong with the poor victimised yolk and all of the nutrition it offers? And exactly how hard is it to crack open an actual real egg?

2. Coconut oil spray.

I wrote a whole post about this one – the point of spray oil is to make sure we have a low fat diet – so given that we aren't scared of fat, coconut oil in a spray can is a complete contradiction…

3. Avocado spread.

My avocados turn brown not longer after I've cut them – yet this stuff stays mysteriously green…

4. Mashed pumpkin.

How hard is it to cook up a pumpkin and mash it?

5. Light coconut milk.

I eat coconut milk and revel in what an incredible fat source it is. They reduce the fat? In coconut milk? There would have to be a national shortage in coconut milk before I’d buy this.

6. Meat in a can.

I just don’t get it?

7. Fruit sugar.

Given that fructose is the sugar we want to avoid – they've cleverly separated it so we can get a huge hit in one go.

Do you agree with my list? What would be on your list of the most pointless foods – and why?

Ok so it’s not the same as real freshly cooked chicken, but it’s better than grabbing sandwich.

Glad I’m not the only person who finds those foods silly.
I always think the people who buy most of them must have the vague
idea that it sounds quite healthy.

I love this post! My Uncle said to me.
“I always look for the ‘low fat processed foods’ as at least then I know it the best stuff for me!”
What can I say! As he is twice the weight he should be!

There are so many pointless foods it’s hard to name my favourite. lol……how about paying double for grated cheese (and it has wood dust in it so it doesn’t clump). Or pre-cut veggies. It really doesn’t take that long to cut up a carrot.

Coconut oil spray like all manufactured sprays is a waste of money and look at the ingredients.
    Ingredients:
    Coconut Oil (65%), Butane, Propane.
    Allergen:
May Be Present Sesame, May Be Present Soy
Buy yourself a cheap spray bottle [glass preferably or stainless steel] and just refill it. Much cheaper and it also doesn’t ruin your pans. you should never spray can sprays on them especially the expensive coated pans.

I thought the tubed avocado stayed green because there was less chance of oxygenation. I use that because I’m the only one in the house that eats avocado and I don’t want to waste it!

Just FYI re the comment on pumpkin availability. The item shown here is from am Australian supermarket, a country where fresh pumpkin is ALWAYS available so still a redundant product in Australia. Kimmi have you ever actually read the ingredients of that packaged avocado? I suggest you do it is not the lack of oxygen that keeps it green it’s the myriad of preservative shit in it! Give me a real avo any day!

I agree with all of your pointless foods. The best thing to do is to eat as close as possible to how the food is found in nature.
Anyone looking for fresh pumpkin but can’t find it, butternut squash works just as well (and maybe even better).
