Woolworths Coconut Oil

in Food, Where to Find

Good news if you’re in Australia, Coconut Oil has just got a bit easier to find. Woolworths now stock a small jar of Spiral Coconut Oil in the Asian Foods section.

Australian Coconut Oil Stockists

I’ve also seen it in Harris Farm and some IGA stores. Hopefully Coles will get in on the act and start stocking Coconut Oil soon too.

Online suppliers definitely seem to be the cheapest way to buy Coconut Oil in Australia and New Zealand, but for all those times when being organised doesn’t come together, it’s great to be able to buy it in a national chain.

This is great, thank you.

Any idea what the quality is like? I doubt it’s cold-pressed but judging from the whiteness of the picture it seems pretty virgin which is always good. I’ll pick one up next time I’m out, can’t go wrong for $6 haha. Thanks again.

I’ll let you know when I try it Koala; I’ve just got a bit of my Nutiva tub to finish first!

That’s good news, I always wondered why they didn’t sell it before. I normally get mine from my local health shop but this looks cheaper.

It’s odd it took them so long to get on board Shirley!

I’m glad one supermarket is selling it, though Coles would be more convenient for me, so hope they catch on as well!

Suz July 15, 2012 at 11:15 am

I’m surprised they haven’t yet Eileen; hopefully it will only be a matter of time before they do.

One of my friends has seen Coconut oil spray in Coles in Melbourne, I’m going hunting for some on the weekend!

Wow – let me know if you find it, I’ve never seen that before!

Did you find it? I checked at Coles Balaclava and Glenhuntly today and they don’t have it…

Healthy Living stores also stock a range of coconut oils (different brands and sizes). There is one located on King Street, Sydney CBD (opposite MLC Centre) for those working in the city.

Suz July 15, 2012 at 11:17 am

That’s where I usually get mine from Ana! It works out cheaper buying the bigger sizes.

Gaby June 15, 2012 at 11:05 am

Yay, finally! And it’s pretty cheap, too.

Isn’t it great Gaby!

I bought Coconut Oil spray recently here in Melbourne. Can’t recall whether Coles or Woolworths. Brand is ProChef. Label says extra virgin.

Suz July 15, 2012 at 11:18 am

I’ve got to get some of that! Thanks Janet! (I am interested in how it works when it’s solid though – i.e. in the winter?)

Melrose brand is very good

Suz July 15, 2012 at 11:21 am

Agreed, I’ve tried that a few times Anthony.

Woolworths sells the spray

Suz July 15, 2012 at 11:22 am

Thanks Aaron! I’m going to hunt it down!

It is a pretty good one to cook with. The same company makes an extra-virgin that is to die for!!! It is heaps better, also a bit more expensive and generally in health food shops ( like Fundies in Paddington, Brisbane). It is so good I want to eat it out of the jar. The colour and smell is different from the virgin to extra-virgin. If you can find and afford the Spiral Organics Wxtra-virgin coconut oil, do it!

Suz July 15, 2012 at 11:23 am

A lot of people do eat it by the spoonful I think Lori! Keeps hunger at bay…

According to the Woolies phone app, it’s on special at the $4.79. Last day today, usually $5.99.
Thinking Woolies should also place the poroduct on the oils shelving. After all, spray coconut oil and sesame oil are there.

Living on the Gold Coast, I buy organic coconut oil at Flannery’s organic supermarkets. It’s not cheap, but it seems to be of good quality. http://www.flannerys.com.au. I’ll have a look at the Woolies one as well, thanks for the tip!

Suz July 12, 2012 at 5:30 pm

Thanks for the link Cornelie – I’ll have to check that out!

Most good health food stores sell good quality Coconut oil, and in bulk sizes, too. Banaban brand is good value.

Reply

Suz July 12, 2012 at 5:24 pm

It definitely works out best buying in bulk. It never seems to last long!

Suz July 12, 2012 at 5:20 pm

It’s great to cook with isn’t it!

Reply

Jackie August 25, 2012 at 5:43 pm

Hi Joel – I get my Coconut Aminos on http://www.iherb.com – they also ship to Australia for very reasonable fees (I am in Melb; and once you spend over $80 the shipping fees drop off significantly). I do most of our online dry goods shopping here – almond meal, organic canned mango/pears, organic olives, organic crushed tomatoes in amber glass jars… stuff generally hard to find here/non existant. For $10 off you can type in AKO344 at checkout but I think it only works the first time you shop there.

is this suitable for soap making?

Reply

Suz July 16, 2012 at 3:25 pm

I’ve not tried myself Aylin, but if a recipe calls for Coconut Oil, I can’t see why not!

Natalie September 21, 2012 at 5:46 pm

I was in Coles today, and they now sell a big jar of Coconut Oil for about $10

Reply

Anthony October 8, 2012 at 3:34 pm

Its great the supermarkets are coming onboard with coconut oil.
However they may not have the quality of oil that can be ordered from http://www.southpacificcoconutoil.com an Australian company.

Anyone in Qld can buy extra virgin certified organic coconut oil from Flannery’s Health food stores. Not sure if they have stores everywhere in Qld. but they have them in Brisbane and Gold Coast. Normally at $17.99 but when on special which is quite often comes down to $13 for 650ml bottle. Best I have found here.

May sound like a strange question but is the coconut oil that is used for cooking suitable to use on your skin? I have heard many people say its amazing for the skin but wasn’t sure if it was different to the one for cooking??

Reply

Suz December 5, 2012 at 1:41 pm

Hi Lindsey, if it’s sold as cooking coconut oil, you can use it on your skin. You can use it for almost anything!
